On Saturday night Steve (Red Man) called me and said I was a sissy unless I went fishing with him the next day at Cockroach Bay. I told him I'd go but only as long as I could bring a slab of my world famous ribs. He said that was fine by him so long as he could bring the grill & charcoal. By time I had the ribs prepped for the next day and my gear packed it was already past 1am. I didn't get to sleep until nearly 3am and then was up and at Cockroach Bay by 5:30 to meet Steve.
We launched from the boat ramp as it was already filling up with weekend warriors like us. We took our favorite short cut to visit our Sheepshead hole but there wasn't anything happening. That's okay though, I'm sure they'll be there soon enough.
We paddled on to the bay where we drift fished for a couple hours using mud minnows on a poppin cork but weren't having much luck aside from one small redfish. Around lunch time I recommended we hole up on a nearby beach for lunch. While there I started chumming the water a bit and then tossed out a mud minnow on a free line and no sooner then we got Steve's grill fired up my drag started singing. I pulled in a 25" redfish. It was the biggest of the day.
After lunch I took a catnap on the beach while Steve fished some more and ate the rest of my ribs. After I woke up we drifted the flats a little while longer but nothing was hitting and there was a lot of boat/fishing pressure so we decided to pack it in.
Awesome day fishing
A fat pack of Smithfield Pork Spare Ribs from Publix.
Adding my top secret rib rub.
We caught 5 redfish altogether but this was the only keeper.
A quick pic of the ribs...could have taken a better one but we were hungry.
Steve made quick work of his half and while I was napping he busted up the rest of mine
